OpenCAD SketchUp Viewer

This is a free viewer that opens SKP files saved in SketchUp 6-2026 in your browser. You can look through tags, materials, groups and components, tour the space with scene playback and walk mode, and measure distances and angles.

.skp

A screen showing an example house model opened with the OpenCAD SketchUp viewer. The red-roofed house, trees, and grass floor are shown in 3D in the center, and the right panel contains a list of 6 tags and 11 materials.

About this tool

A tool for reviewing the form and configuration of furniture or interior designs—originally created in SketchUp—directly within a web browser. It follows the styles, scenes and shadow settings saved in the file, so the model opens close to how it looked in SketchUp. It processes local files via a web worker and renders them using the OpenCAD 3D core.

Format
.skp files saved from SketchUp 6, 7, 8 and 2013-2026. Files from SketchUp 5 or earlier cannot be opened yet.
Navigation
Turn tags on and off, check materials, find groups and components by name, pick a single face or edge to see its area or length
View
Opens with the file's style, down to the background and edge colors (including edges colored by material), seven display modes, shadows and fog, multiple section planes with section fill
Scenes
Scene tabs and scene playback, walking that stops at walls and follows the floor, field-of-view control, two-point perspective
Measure
Tape measure and protractor that snap to endpoints, midpoints, circle centers, perpendicular feet and intersections, with Shift direction lock; place and undo guide points and guide lines (kept when you reopen the same file); copy the last 10 measurements; save and print images
Mobile
A single row of view and measure buttons, press-and-hold precise aiming for the tape measure and protractor, and a joystick for walking. Added to the home screen, it opens without an internet connection

Getting started

  1. Open SKP Viewer and click “Open Example” to check the house model created in the browser.
  2. Select an .skp file via "Open," or drag and drop it into the window.
  3. View the model using the Tags, Materials, and Components panels, as well as the 3D view. If the model has scenes, tap a scene tab or press ▶ to play them in order.
  4. Measure distances and angles with the tape measure (T) and the protractor, then save a PNG or print it from “Save image”.

Available for free, with no installation or user registration required. File parsing and display are processed within the device's browser; the selected drawing or model files are not uploaded to a server.

Support and limitations

  • Very old files saved in SketchUp 3-5 cannot be read. When you open one, the viewer tells you its saved version; re-save it in SketchUp 6 or later and open it again.
  • It is not an official SketchUp product and does not provide model editing or SKP resave functions. Not all materials and objects look identical to the original.
